The SBGJ005 is the first Grand Seiko high-frequency GMT watch and the first to receive the new 9S86 movement. It combines the accuracy and heritage of the legendary Hi-Beat but with a 4th hand, useful for keeping track of a second time zone. Like any true GMT watch, the hour hand is independently set. The green dial was inspired by the lush mountains visible from the work shop where it was made.
The SBGJ005 also has another unique feature, a custom skeletonized titanium rotor, visible in the photos below. This is available only in a select few limited edition GMT Grand Seikos. The SBGJ005's new movement, the 9S86, beats 10 times per second to create an ultra-smooth seconds hand, and of course, better than chronometer accuracy. Furthermore, the SBGJ005's 9S86 uses highly advanced MEMS technology to create the most precise metallic components in the industry, smooth almost down to the molecular level. In house proprietary SPRON alloys for both the hairspring and mainspring allow for an industry leading 55 hour power reserve, one of the longest power reserves of a high-frequency watch ever made, as well as a more stable hairspring for improved timekeeping.
